Goofy Sunday

We started out Sunday on a goofy note.  Ian was very amused by his Daddy...

Very amused indeed...

Because Daddy had a colander on his head "to keep the government out of [his] thoughts".  I had the colander set aside as a donation and Chris suddenly decided it had a use for us again.

We decided to be rid of our coffee table.  It has become quiet a hazard since we got the Wii, and has nearly been the cause of a few dramatic incidents.  So Chris was taking it apart to take to his sister and Ian decided to use it as a jungle gym one last, wonderful time.

For Christmas Ian got this really cute train set from his great aunt Sophie and uncle Chuck.  We decided to put it away for a few months because he was so lucky to receive a ton of toys for Christmas.  So today with our extra living room space we decided it was a great day to bring it out.  Ian was having a great time, although he still doesn't seem to get the concept of the tracks yet.

It is so much more fun when you sit in the middle of the tracks don't you know.

With the help of Pillsbury, I baked some cookies for dessert tonight.  Ian was enjoying his cookie so throughly that I thought a picture was in order.

I will upload the full set to Flickr Photostream, check it out for a little video of Ian using the table and a jungle gym.

Peaceful Evening

Tonight Chris is off to the last home game of the regular Saginaw Spirit hockey season.  Ian is asleep and I thought was a wonderful time to put some pictures on the blog, without rushing through it on Sunday night.  So here is a little taste of the last few days.

Ian has been playing in his car a lot!  He recently has started taking his toy keys in with him...you can see them hanging on the horn in this picture.  He is starting to get the idea of how to move the car around with his feet but so far he can only go backwards.  Good thing we don't have to pay auto insurance on this car and kid...it would cost and arm and a leg with as many times Ian backs into things.

Sometimes it is nice to just plop down wherever and read a good book with your dog.

Now that Ian can get up in the chairs whenever he wants, he does.  Here he is watching Phineas and Ferb, which we have on DVD since we turned off our cable TV.  So far we don't miss cable at all and Phineas and Ferb is better when you can watch many episodes in a row without various Disney promos and horrid teen music videos.

Holy moly what a difference a week makes...now Ian LOVES the bath (except for hair washing).  Here you can see him playing with his squirting toys.  (Note: If the modesty patch isn't enough to discourage any of you pedophiles out there please pour bleach in your eyes. Thank you.)

I had to put Ian's car in my room the other day because he was getting a little ornery because it wasn't doing what he wanted it to do, whatever that was.  Later I got Ian in his PJ's in my room and was prepping for bedtime while he played in my room.  After Ian went to bed I noticed that at some point he put his lotion and ointment in the cup holders of the car (which was still in my closet.)  What a little, goofy kid!

Today I was working on folding flatware in napkins for my sister-in-law's wedding shower next weekend.  Part of the time I was working Ian was having a fit crying and just plain being out of sorts.  The other half of the time he was playing under the table and having a great time.

Don't you know that under the table is the best place in the house to read?

Ta Ta for now.  I hope that your weekend is most lovely!

P.S. I recently learned that spacing twice after a period is no longer correct, and yet I cannot stop.  Old habits die hard.  I find it amusing, however, that I am now old enough to have outdated habits.

He Did It!

The past few days Ian hasn't been feeling very good due to a little virus.  He's had some very tender feelings and was a super snugly little guy while he wasn't well.  Luckily he started feeling so much better last night.  It was like night and day from even just that morning.  I went to work in the afternoon while Chris stayed home with Ian, and when I came home I was so surprised to see Ian.  He was standing on the recliner that faces away from the front door, and was leaning over the back smiling at me.  It was the brightest sunshine of a smile and I knew he felt better.

So yesterday evening Chris got doughnuts for dessert as a special treat.  Ian took his piece of doughnut into his Cosy Coupe car and put his feet up by the steering wheel to munch on his treat and watch TV without worry that Mason could come up and steal his goody.  It was so cute and I wish that I had the camera on me to catch that moment.

Then the biggest surprise of the day...Ian took a bath in the big tub and he didn't cry!  Huge!  Huge progress in his fear of all that water in the big tub.  I put him in the tub and he was a bit apprehensive at first, but he quickly got over it and started playing with his bath toys.  Who knows what clicked, but he was suddenly cool with hanging out in the tub.  So I decided to skip shampooing his hair  (another thing he hates) to keep this bath fun.  What a huge load off my shoulders.  I hated torturing him every bath time that we didn't use the tiny baby bath tub.  Oh and the tiny bath tub took a ride on the trash truck this week and decided not to come back.  Good bye tiny tub!

Lazy Week

I realized on Sunday morning that I didn't pick up the camera all week.  So I took a handful of pictures as Ian played Sunday evening.  He wasn't feeling his best Sunday; I think those molars might be coming in!

Mr. Ian thought that dinner on Sunday was casual so he popped his foot up on the table.  The things kids think are fun...so silly.

Mason is always the faithful eating companion...waiting for something to fall.

Then he started dipping his puff snacks in ranch and smearing them on the table.  Fun and messy!  The best kid of trouble to get into.

I told Ian to try riding him dinosaur like a horse, and so he did.  More pictures of dino riding fun on our Flickr set, here.

Ian begged to get up for a snuggle with Daddy while he played his hockey game.

I went to put Ian in his boosted seat and the straps were tangled up and snapped together the wrong way.  Ian has been enjoying knotting them together.

I recently saw this beautiful print featured on one of the blogs I follow, and I just loved it.  So I bought a card version and framed it in a matching frame I found at Target.  What a lovely and bright little piece of happy.

We Are In For It Now

Last night Chris put Ian to bed.  After he was all tucked in and settled down, Chris left his room and pulled the door mostly closed.  I could hear Ian whimper a little in protest of being alone, but then it got quiet and we thought that was that.  About ten minutes later another small whine comes from down the hallway, followed by silence.  No big deal, he is probably just about asleep by now.  Then there was this weird squeak noise.  Chris and I looked at each other and we both cocked out heads to listen.  The next sound we heard was little foot falls coming down the hallway.  Ian got out of his bed, in the dark, for the first time ever!  He opened his bedroom door with a creak and came out into the living room looking for me.  Oh dear!  We are in trouble now that he has gotten brave enough to get up in the dark.

Then this morning, Ian strikes again!  Chris was laying on the couch, not quite ready to start his day.  Ian climbed up on the couch, climbed Chris like a jungle gym, then clamored his way to the back of the couch.  Now that Ian has found the highest perch in the house it is all over...

Nothing is off limits to him now!

Recliner Reading Time

This week Ian has spent a lot of time reading.  He also learned to climb a few new things this week, one of those things being Daddy's recliner.

One day Ian kept taking his books to this wall and sitting to read them.  It was so cute that I had to get a picture.

Up on Daddy's recliner.  I took a bunch of pictures on Ian flipping through his book on the recliner, and I used a slower shutter speed so catch some of the motion.  Check out the whole set on my Flickr Photostream.

As Ian looked though this book he said "bay" a few times pointing out the pictures of babies in the book. While Ian's words are not perfect, he is acquiring more and more every day it seems.  The other day I took him with me to Target and we went down an aisle there was a misplaced ball on one of the shelves.  Ian pointed at it and said "baa" to let me know what was there.  Then he said "baa" with the tone that he wanted it, and when I didn't give to him as we passed he said again "BAA" protesting.

While Ian reads I notices that he wiggles his toes.  So I took a few pictures right at his feet to make them the focal point.  While you don't know they are wiggling, they are still super cute little feet!

Ian got his hair cut on Saturday, and it was the worst hair cut yet!  He was so wiggly and uncooperative this time, and his hair ended up not very even.  I felt so badly for the lady cutting his hair; she was so patient but still it has to suck trying to cut kids hair.

And the other new thing that Ian learned to climb this week is the coffee table!  He has been making attempts over and over and being told to get down.  However, Saturday night while Chris was at the hockey game I will sitting on the couch and I looked up to see this!  Luckily my camera was right next to me so I could snap a couple pictures as I told Ian to get down.

Tonight Ian had some chicken nuggets for dinner.  I cut them in half to help cool them faster...little did I know that cutting them would also make them wonderful for mini-wall building.  He even used the ketchup as a mortar, dipping each nugget piece in he ketchup before placing it in a row with the others.  My kid is a cute little weirdo.

Block Head

Last week when Ian and I were home sick I got Ian a set of Mega Blocks, which are basically giant legos.  I like to get him a little something when he does something special and he sat through my doctor appointment without a single fit, so I thought that was pretty special.  So the blocks were a big fixture the rest of the week and this weekend.

On Friday morning I had Chris take a picture of Ian and I before we left for the day.  Ian was extra cute and snuggly that morning.

After our day Friday Ian and I got home and started playing with the blocks.  We built a bunch of different structures before Daddy came home from work.

Random self portrait.

While Ian and I played with the blocks, Mason sat vigil by the door waiting for Daddy to get home.

My little man and his big toothy grin.

Working so hard on his designs.

What is the face my son makes when his Daddy get's home from work?  The biggest smile you have ever seen in the world.  (and I caught it in a picture....yay!)

...And a big squeal of joy that Daddy is home to play also.

I think that it is a good possibility that pancakes are Ian's favorite food ever.  He never turns down pancake breakfast on the weekends.  Look at that goofy grin?  I think it is safe to say he was enjoying his breakfast on Saturday.

We had a lovely visiting weekend.  On Saturday my parents came up to visit for the day and then on Sunday Chris' parents came to visit as well.  It was a fun weekend for Ian that he got to spend time with his grandparents.
